Christmas is a time of fun and celebration for many. It now has both religious and secular traditions associated with it. Different Nations, regions and families will often have their own unique Christmas traditions.
In this exhibition we will take you on a journey to discover some of the various ways in which people celebrate Christmas in different places. Some traditions have ancient roots in the pagan midwinter celebrations which preceded Christmas, others come from Christian traditions and yet more have appeared more recently to celebrate the fun there is to be had in the Christmas season.
Christmas, and the pagan festivals before it, have long been something to keep our spirits bright during the dark winter months. There are many similarities in the festivities across the world with special foods and decorations used to celebrate. There are, however, unique traditions in many places, sometimes specific to certain towns.
Maybe some of the traditions will inspire you to try something new..
This exhibition is included in your entry to Torre Abbey. We also have a FREE Christmas Garden Trail (weather dependant) for children. Pick up your sheets at reception.
