Memory Cafe comes to Torre Abbey as part of free CAN programme

CAN (Connecting Actively to Nature) is coming to Torre Abbey Museum this summer and is offering lots of free exciting activities for over 55s.

The CAN programme aims to help people discover the combined benefits of a more active lifestyle, with the psychological benefits that being outdoors in nature brings.

From Friday 14 June, and in partnership with Squircle Arts and with support from the Torbay Community Development Trust (TCDT), a Memory Café will be hosted at the museum.

Memory cafés provide stimulating activities and company for those with dementia. Each session will be led by a qualified facilitator, with a different guest joining each week. During the visit, guests will spend time outdoors interacting with nature and being inspired by Torre Abbey’s beautiful gardens as well as getting to enjoy tea and cake.

Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, Cllr Mike Morey said: “Whether you are interested in creating a community garden, walking, reading, art, swimming or improving your mindfulness or fitness levels, the museum is running lots of free to attend CAN short courses from six to 12 weeks long.
“Although the courses are aimed at over 55s you are encouraged to bring younger family members (where suitable).”

All sessions are part of the Torbay Connecting to Nature Programme funded by Active Devon. All courses are free to attend but must be pre-booked.
