Maintenance Work on the Upper Meadows

Maintenance Work on the Upper Meadows

We are pleased to inform you that SWISCo will be conducting essential maintenance work on the Upper Meadows (formerly the Pitch and Putt) at Torre Abbey. This work is crucial to maintaining the beauty and accessibility of the area for all visitors.

Planned Activities:

  1. Grass Cutting: SWISCo will cut the grass on the Upper Meadows. To allow residents and visitors to enjoy this space, the gate from the southern fence which formed the boundary with Torre Abbey Meadows, will not be reinstated. Historic England has approved this plan.

  2. Scrub and Vegetation Removal: Ground storey scrub and vegetation will be removed from two designated areas. This will prevent the spread of scrub into the site and open up vistas towards Torquay Harbour.

  3. Tree Crown Lifting: Trees to the east will be crown lifted to a height of no more than 4 meters to enhance the views towards the harbour. (see picture, trees highlighted in blue).

Wildlife Considerations:

Before commencing the work, SWISCo have provided an ecologist to assess the site for wildlife, particularly hedgehogs, to ensure their safety and well-being.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we undertake these necessary improvements to keep the Upper Meadows a beautiful and enjoyable place for everyone.
